The coordinated development of electric arc furnaces and scrap steel resources!

The rapid development of electric arc furnace steelmaking relies on the support of scrap steel resources. With the continuous increase of steel storage in our country, the amount of scrap steel generated has been increasing year by year, providing sufficient raw material guarantee for short process steelmaking. By recycling scrap steel through electric arc furnaces, every ton of scrap steel recovered can save 1.7 tons of iron ore, 0.6 tons of coke, and 0.3 tons of limestone, while reducing 3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, achieving a resource circular economy model of "turning waste into treasure". In order to adapt to different qualities of scrap steel raw materials, modern electric arc furnaces are also equipped with a comprehensive pretreatment system to remove impurities from scrap steel through processes such as magnetic separation, screening, and shearing, ensuring the quality of molten steel. Some enterprises have also developed a mixed steelmaking process of "electric arc furnace+direct reduced iron", which can supplement raw materials through direct reduced iron when scrap resources are insufficient, further improving production flexibility.
